Knitting calculator: stitches and rows from a 10 × 10 cm swatch

no screenshot

Fig. 1 demo project

The visitor enters the stitches and rows from a swatch and the size of the finished piece, and the site at once gives how many stitches to cast on and how many rows to knit, taking the stitch pattern into account. This feature is part of the “Website with features” scope (€1,450 net), or it can be added separately to an existing site: in the “Website with features” scope from €1,450 net, or a quote after a 15-minute call.

How does the calculator know how many stitches to choose?

It multiplies the width in centimetres by the number of stitches in the swatch and divides by 10, then rounds to the nearest number that suits the chosen stitch pattern.

Do I need to create an account to calculate?

No. The result appears straight after you enter the data, and the site saves nothing.

How it works for the visitor

Enters the swatch and the size
  1. Enters the swatch and the size

They give the number of stitches and rows per 10 cm of the swatch and the width and length of the finished piece. The fields have hints, and the “Clear” button restores the initial values.

  2. Gets the number of stitches to cast on

The result is rounded to a number that suits the stitch pattern, for example divisible by 4 for 2 × 2 ribbing, with edge stitches if needed. Next to it you can see how many rows to knit.

  3. Returns to the pattern with the number ready

Pattern descriptions give the stitches and rows per 10 cm and point to the calculator when your swatch comes out differently from the pattern’s.

How it works for the owner

  1. Answers the most common question without any work

The question about converting stitches for a different swatch has a standing answer on the page, so it does not have to be repeated in comments.

  2. Adds patterns with swatch data

For each pattern they enter the swatch stitch count, and the pattern page shows it in a materials box with a link to the calculator.
