Knitting blog – showcase project

Showcase project. This is our own concept, not work for a client.

Pętelka is a blog about hand knitting: free patterns with exact stitch counts, guides from the very first stitch and a history of knitting without myths. The site looks like a knitter’s notebook, with cards pinned at a slight angle and buttons like clothing tags.

The patterns come with a stitch calculator that works out, from a swatch and a measurement, how many stitches to cast on and how many rows to knit, and with a pattern to print. Posts can be filtered by topic and level, and search sits in the header of every page. The whole thing is a showcase version.

The industry’s problem

Someone who is starting to knit looks for a pattern that will really work out, and for explanations without guesswork: how many stitches to cast on, how to hold the yarn, what to do when the fabric pulls. They want to pick a post at their level quickly and have the calculations to hand.

Features used in this project

Knitting calculator: stitches and rows from a 10 × 10 cm swatch

The visitor enters the stitches and rows from a swatch and the size of the finished piece, and the site at once gives how many stitches to cast on and how many rows to knit, taking the stitch pattern into account.
